Gisela McDaniel
Born in Nevada, Gisela McDaniel is a diasporic indigenous Chamorro artist based in Detroit. She received her BFA from the University of Michigan. McDaniel uses the canvas to tell the story of women and non-binary people who have been abused. More specifically, she looks at indigenous, multiracial, immigrant and of color, exposing her subjects when they may not have the strength to do so themselves. McDaniel's art reminds people of things that are going on, even when not talked about. Her work is exhibited and sold around the world. Patrick Dougherty
Born in Oklahoma, Dougherty was raised in North Carolina where he earned a B.A. in English from the University of North Carolina and an M.A. in Hospital and Health Administration from the University of Iowa. Dougherty did not get into art until he returned to the University of North Carolina to study art history and sculpture. Dougherty's love of nature and his carpentry skills have allowed him to build and experiment with tree saplings as sculpture materials. He has created sculptures around the world but ventured to Detroit, MI during the COVID-19 pandemic to transform Eliza Howell Park with his "stickwork" installation. Throughout his three-week trip to Detroit, Dougherty engaged with artist, volunteers, and neighbors to create an outstanding environmental sculpture. Senghor Reid
Senghor Reid has a large presence in the Michigan art scene. Reid is currently an Artist-in-Residence at the Cranbrook Schools in Bloomfield Hills, MI. In addition, Reid is a National Board Certified Visual Arts Educator, and was my painting and drawing teacher in high school. Reid’s work has been exhibited both locally and internationally. Reid received his BFA from the University of Michigan and his teaching degree from Wayne State University. His work explores the interaction between the human body and the environment by creating visual representations of dreams, memories, and traces of human contact with nature. Mikey Frances
Mikey Francis is a local Detroit artist with no formal training or schooling. His work is overwhelmingly based off the constantly changing situations of the Detroit street art scene. Frances enjoys working with stretched canvas, and recycled objects he found from years of living in Detroit. Jef Bourgeau
Jef Bourgeau is a painter, curator, photographer, and conceptual artist based in Detroit. Bourgeau's work is exhibited in galleries and museums around the world. His art is also often a conversation in multiple publications, art journals, and books. His work is in sync with the current cultural movement. Beverly Fishman
Beverly Fishman lives and works in Michigan and has worked as both an Artist-in-Resident and is currently the head of the Painting Department of the Cranbrook Academy of Art since 1992. Fishman's work shines through her contemporary and authoritative aesthetic outlook. She explores technology, science, and biology through her art and has conversations with others about their bodies, minds, and identities. Fishman is a fan of using new materials including both traditional and nontraditional objects into her work. Fishman's work is iconic and separates itself from a lot of other pieces of art.
